Lakeland Mayor Honors Watson Clinic Gynecologic Oncologist With Coveted CityMaker Award


Watson Clinic Gynecologic Oncologist Richard J. Cardosi, MD has been presented with the Love Lakeland CityMaker Award for September 2017. A special honor granted by Lakeland Mayor Howard Wiggs and the City of Lakeland, the award recognizes inspiring individuals who make a difference in the community through their professional duties and outreach efforts.

“I’m humbled to receive this award,” says Dr. Cardosi. “My family and I have been proud to call Lakeland our home since 2005, and I feel honored to share this community with my treasured family of patients.”

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Cardosi granted an in-depth interview to, during which he spoke of his decision to base his medical practice in Lakeland, his attentive and compassionate approach to patient care, his participation in running in support of cancer-related causes, and the aspects of his community that he values most.

Dr. Cardosi is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist at Watson Clinic’s Main location in Lakeland. The exemplary care he provides his patients has earned him national recognition, particularly in the field of minimally invasive robotic surgery, for which he has been ranked one of the country’s top practitioners.

He received his medical degree with high honors from the University of Tennessee in Nashville. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He furthered his specialty training by completing a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

Dr. Cardosi has authored over 40 publications and book chapters in his field of medicine. He is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Society of Clinical Oncologists, and Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. He also serves as President of the Watson Clinic Foundation.
