Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful and sometimes debilitating condition that afflicts bones and joints. There are many different types of arthritis, but the two most common are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder that inflames the lining of joints and leads to bone erosion. Osteoarthritis occurs with normal wear and tear over time, particularly on joints that bear weight. The most frequently occurring symptoms of arthritis are pain, stiffness, swelling and compromised range of motion.

Watson Clinic’s Orthopaedic Surgeons offer a complete range of surgical and nonsurgical options aimed at improving a patient’s mobility and quality of life from the onset of arthritis to its most advanced stages. Surgery is usually the treatment method of last resort, and may be avoided by pursuing more conservative options such as lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, physical therapy and pain-reducing injections at the joint site. If these options fail to reverse the ill effects of arthritis, there are a host of minimally invasive surgical solutions that may be considered, including arthroscopy, joint resurfacing, and total joint replacement.
