Studio Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Arts In Medicine Studio Volunteer!


Our volunteers are vital to the success of the AIM Studio. They offer patients, family members and caregivers opportunities to engage in creative arts/activities both in the Studio and in the patient infusion room. Example activities include adult coloring, painting, origami, jewelry making, and more.
 
Duties:
  • Prepare the Studio for opening and closing, including, cleaning and sanitizing work-spaces and materials, setting up supplies for scheduled activities, returning materials to indicated storage space and tracking Studio activity.
  • Engage visitors in friendly conversation as deemed appropriate and facilitate activities as needed.
  • Assist guest artists with workshops.
  • Offer creative arts materials to patients and families in treatment waiting areas and infusion room.
  • Answer questions relating to the Arts In Medicine program.
 
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18-years-old.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and reach above their shoulders.
  • Commit to volunteering a minimum of once a week for a 3-hour shift for at least 6 months.
  • Complete a mandatory criminal background check, health screen and orientation.
  • Adhere to the Watson Clinic policies and procedures, including the dress code.
  • Be responsible for communicating when unavailable for assigned shift.
 
Essential Skills Needed:
  • Volunteers are generally not professional artists, but do have some artistic skills or creative ability.
  • Volunteers must demonstrate a readiness to help others and the ability to maintain healthy boundaries while assisting patients and caregivers.
  • Volunteers must be self-starters who can work independently and with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Volunteers must demonstrate clear active-listening communication skills.
  • Volunteers must demonstrate objectivity and will not personalize their own experiences.
  • Volunteers are mature individuals who can provide a positive atmosphere and can empathize with people living with cancer.
  • Volunteers follow direction from staff.
