Watson Clinic Now Offers New Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine

9/25/2023

Watson Clinic now offers Arexvy, a new vaccine designed to protect against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Currently, the clinic is administering the vaccine to established patients who are 65 years of age or older.

RSV is a common virus that impacts the lungs and respiratory tract, and usually causes mild cold-like symptoms such as a congested or runny nose, dry cough, fever, sore throat and headache. Severe cases of RSV can afflict older adults with underlying chronic conditions such as lung disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurologic disorders, kidney disorders, liver disorders, hematologic disorders, a compromised immune system, and other conditions that may increase the risk of severe respiratory disease.

Arexvy is administered in a single dose. Patients may receive Arexvy and their seasonal flu vaccination in the same setting. Patients receiving Arexvy should wait two weeks before receiving any COVID vaccine. If a patient receives a COVID vaccine first, they should wait two weeks after taking Arexvy before they administer a second COVID vaccine.

The Arexvy vaccine is currently administered by physician referral only in the Nurse Clinic at Watson Clinic Main at 1600 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland, and Watson Clinic Highlands at 2300 E. County Road 540A in south Lakeland. To receive a vaccination, please contact your Watson Clinic Primary Care physician for a referral by calling 863-680-7190.
