Watson Clinic Center For Research Announces New Director

Michelle Sharrett, RN, BSN, CCRC has been chosen as the new Director of the Watson Clinic Center for Research. Her primary duties include the management of operational functions and overseeing all ongoing research activities.

“After 26 years in research as a Study Coordinator at the Watson Clinic Center for Research, I am excited to step into this new role,” Ms. Sharrett said. “Clinical research gives our patients opportunities to access new therapies and advance medicine. As Director, I’m looking forward to supporting all physicians, providers and team members to conduct research that benefits our patients and empowers us to provide the best care possible.”

Ms. Sharrett’s wealth of experience in healthcare and medical research makes her an ideal candidate for this position. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Prior to joining the Watson Clinic Center for Research, she worked as a staff nurse at Lakeland Regional Health across multiple departments, including neurology, endocrinology and interventional cardiology. She is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.

Since its inception in 1985, the Watson Clinic Center for Research has improved patient care by developing new knowledge gleaned through the research process. The Center encourages Clinic physicians to take part and enlist their patients in the current research efforts that apply to their conditions. Currently, the Center is administering a series of trials designed to advance treatment approaches to breast cancer, colon cancer, gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma, and more.
