Assistant (PA) – Pre-Admission Testing
Watson Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented APRN or PA to join our Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) team at Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital. In this vital role, you will help ensure patients are medically optimized and prepared for surgery while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Optimization
- Perform comprehensive pre-operative history and physical examinations (H&Ps)
- Identify surgical risk factors and optimize patient health before procedures
- Evaluate medical readiness and help reduce perioperative risks
Diagnostic Ordering & Review
- Order and review pre-operative testing, including labs, EKGs, and imaging
- Coordinate specialty clearances as needed, including cardiology, pulmonology, and other consultative services
- Interpret results and communicate concerns to the team
Medication Management
- Review and reconcile home medications
- Provide evidence-based guidance on perioperative medication management, including anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, diabetic medications, and other high-risk therapies
Patient Education
- Educate patients on preoperative instructions, including NPO requirements, medication adjustments, arrival times, and postoperative expectations
- Ensure patients understand their surgical preparation plan and can ask questions
Collaboration
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support safe, efficient surgical care
- Contribute to multidisciplinary decisions regarding surgical readiness
Documentation
- Document assessments, recommendations, test results, and patient education in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Communicate findings promptly to the surgical care team
Qualifications
- Current Florida APRN or PA license
- National certification as an APRN or PA-C
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Experience in perioperative, surgical, primary care, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or related settings preferred
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
