In 2024, the City of Lakeland made history by officially declaring July 27^th as Arts and Health Day, a cornerstone event of the national Arts for Everybody campaign through the National League of Cities. This celebration marked the inaugural Arts in Health Week, a collaborative initiative led by the Watson Clinic Foundation's Arts in Medicine program. Over 21 organizations from across the city joined forces to spotlight the transformative benefits of the arts for individual and community health.

 

Central to this week-long event was Hexagon Harmony, a community-wide art project that invited participants to decorate small hexagons, which were combined to form a beautiful honeycomb mosaic symbolizing creativity, collaboration, and unity.

 

In 2025, thanks to a generous grant from the Polk Arts and Cultural Alliance, we are excited to expand this celebration into an annual tradition, furthering the conversation around the power of arts in health.
