Cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve an individual’s appearance and self-esteem. Cosmetic surgery is usually not covered by health insurance because it is elective.
Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body, caused by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. In general, surgery is performed to improve function, but may also be done to approximate a normal appearance. Reconstructive surgery is generally covered by most health insurance policies, although coverage for specific procedures and levels of insurance coverages vary greatly.
There are a number of plastic surgery procedures that sometimes require special consideration by an insurance carrier. These areas usually involve operations which may be reconstructive or cosmetic, depending on each patient's situation. For example, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) - a procedure normally performed to achieve cosmetic improvement - may be covered if the eyelids are drooping severely and obscuring a patient's vision.

Dr. Ferguson received his osteopathic medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA, before completing an internship and residency in general surgery from Temple University-Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA. He then completed a residency in plastic surgery at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO.

Dr. Kazmier provides a variety of plastic surgery services ranging from cosmetic procedures to reconstructive care from her Suite B office at the Watson Clinic Women’s Center.
“As a result of 10 years of dedicated training focused in only plastic surgery, I am continuously fine tuning my interpretation of aesthetic ideals for the body from head to toe,” Dr. Kazmier says. “Through my understanding of a patient’s desired goals and utilization of advanced plastic surgery techniques, I can
mold the body in a manner that restores a normal, natural appearance and improves upon the patient’s self-esteem.” Dr. Kazmier says this is true of both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
“My main goal is to achieve a natural looking result by creating a more youthful appearance to the face and body,’ Dr. Kazmier continues. “These procedures may involve less invasive injectables or in-office laser treatments, or more extensive surgical treatments. There are many new options available and my goal is to recommend the best technique for each individual.”
Dr. Kazmier received her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. She completed a general surgery internship and plastic surgery residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She has authored or contributed to various medical publications and has received honors from the American College of Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society.
Dr. Kazmier, who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons and an Active Member of American Society of Plastic Surgeons, counsels male and female patients on a wide range of procedures. In addition to offering immediate and delayed breast reconstruction, she offers cosmetic breast procedures as well, including breast augmentations, lifts, and reductions (for men and women). She also performs face and hand rejuvenation with minimally invasive techniques, tummy tucks, liposculpture, Brazilian buttock lift, spider vein laser therapy, scar revision, body contouring, and reconstructions following skin cancer removal.
Dr. Kazmier works in harmony with Watson Clinic breast cancer surgeons when the severity of a cancer removal procedure demands immediate reconstruction to the breast. She lends her expertise right then – during the original breast cancer surgery.
With immediate breast reconstruction surgery, follow-up reconstruction procedures can be significantly minimized, in addition to aiding in psychological adjustment after the breast cancer surgery. Rather than prolonging the recovery process by weeks or months, immediate breast reconstruction means a patient can more quickly get on with living a normal life.
