About The Program:
Watson Clinic is proud to have served the healthcare needs of Central Florida since 1941. Medical technology has changed dramatically since then; however, a singular focus on each patient has remained unchanged. With the patient's care in mind, Watson Clinic has expanded the Sports Medicine program and increased access to meet the demands of the Lakeland community's growing population and escalating athletic involvement.

Training: Internship and Residency in Family Medicine, Texas Tech University; Fellowship in Sports Medicine, American Sports Medicine Institute (under the tutelage of internationally known sports medicine experts - Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Lawrence Lemark)

Unique Qualifications: Nonsurgical treatment of sports injuries, sports-related medical diseases, musculoskeletal medicine, joint injections/aspirations, bilingual in English and Spanish. Dr. Montenegro serves as team physician for Florida operations of the Detroit Tigers and Lakeland Flying Tigers, Southeastern University, George Jenkins High School, Lake Gibson High School and Kathleen High School, as well as numerous competitve athletic organizations.

Unique Qualifications: Offers a wide variety of both surgical and non-surgical treatment, has served as the Chairman for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, worked closely with the NBA during their pre-draft camp activities as well as with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Rage, Florida Sunshine State games and Florida Southern College. Voted by Money Magazine as “Top Orthopaedic Surgeon” in 2003.

Unique Qualifications: In addition to general orthopedic surgery, Dr. Vo is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy and Joint Reconstructive Surgery. His expertise ranges from arthroscopic, minimally invasive surgery, to complex, computer navigated, reconstruction of the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow and ankle.
His proficiency includes:
- arthroscopic meniscus surgery, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, lateral/SLAP lesion repair
- surgeries for arthritis, such as resurfacing, total knee replacement, total hip replacement, total shoulder replacement
- closed or open treatment of various sports injuries and fractures
Dr. Vo serves as team physician for numerous athletic organizations including the Detroit Tigers, Chief of Orthopaedics at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, spokesperson for Watson Clinic Orthopedic Department, author of numerous articles, and voted by Money Magazine as “Top Orthopaedic Surgeon” in 2003, voted one of Connolly’s “Best Physicians in Florida” in 2000, and selected as “Top Doctor” in 2002 by Consumer Guides, and “America’s Top Orthopedists” in 2009 by Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Unique Qualifications: Orthopaedic trauma; Treats closed or open injuries and fractures from various sports, pelvic and acetabular surgery, correction of bone deformities and infections, staged limb reconstruction and other minimally invasive procedures.

Unique Qualifications: Dr. Volpe previously performed orthopaedic research, which involved advances in Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic trauma care. Throughout his career, he has treated athletic injuries in patients ranging from the recreational child to the professional football, golfers and baseball athletes. In addition to non-operative treatment of the injured athlete, arthroscopic and percutaneous techniques are employed to minimize time off from athletic participation. Procedures include arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instability surgery, ACL reconstruction, knee cartilage repair, total shoulder, reverse total shoulder, percutaneous scaphoid fixation, and repairs/reconstructions of ankle and elbow ligaments and tendons.
Dr. Volpe was the first surgeon in the area to complete training in computer navigation for joint replacement surgery. As a result of his orthopaedic knowledge, expertise and patient outcomes, Money Magazine recognized him as Top Orthopedic Surgeon and “America’s Top Orthopedists” by Consumers’ Research Council of America.
