Why an Anticoagulation Clinic?
The Anticoagulation Clinic at Watson Clinic was established in 1995 and currently manages more than 3000 Watson Clinic patients with thrombotic disorders. The Anticoagulation Clinic is designed to help patients safely manage their anticoagulation medications including Warfarin sodium, Coumadin, and Jantoven. In recent years, studies have shown that patients who are managed by Anticoagulation Clinics have fewer incidences of bleeding and clotting complication as well as fewer hospital visits resulting from these complications.
Who we are
The Anticoagulation Clinic is staffed by an experienced team of RN Specialists and support staff who work under an established protocol approved by Watson Clinic physicians. The Coumadin Clinic's goal is to provide safe and effective anticoagulation monitoring and to establish the continuity of healthcare delivery through patient education and monitoring.
The AC Clinic nurses believe that a patient who is educated about his or her health care is given the ability to participate more fully in their own health and wellness. We strive to establish and keep communication open and vital with our patients. Regular assessment of INR values, medication and lifestyle changes as well as ongoing education and evaluation of patient needs is essential for providing the highest possible level of care for our patients.
Referrals
Referrals are accepted form Watson Clinic physicians only, and patients must see their managing physicians at least once a year.
Patient and Family Education
Teaching sessions are scheduled on Fridays from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on 2 West in the main Watson Clinic campus. Family and support members are welcome. A reservation is required to ensure adequate space and teacher / student ratio. Individual teaching can be arranged by appointment as needed. Written educational materials are available during all business hours for any patient who would like them.
Laboratory Services
Watson Clinic offers a licensed, on site laboratory providing PT and INR testing of each Anticoagulation Clinic patient. All Watson Clinic satellite sites are equipped for your lab draw convenience as well. The goal in the Anticoagulation Clinic is to have results reported to our patients within 24 hours of laboratory draw. In most cases, results from morning labs are communicated to the patient that same day.
