Watson Clinic is pleased to welcome cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgeons Nestor F. Dans, MD, and Barry L. Winton, MD, to their expert team of cardiovascular specialists. Dr. Dans specializes in off pump bypass surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) including lobectomy, and aortic aneurysm surgery. Dr. Winton’s areas of expertise include adult cardiac surgery, non-cardiac thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery. Dr. Winton is also well-versed in a wide range of cardiac surgery procedures (excluding transplants) and non-cardiac thoracic surgery including video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Dr. Dans received his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where he also performed his internship in General Surgery. He went on to complete his residency in General Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, which he followed with three fellowships in Critical care/Trauma (University of California/San Diego Medical Center in San Diego, CA), Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiopulmonary Transplantation (Pat O. Daily, MD, Medical Corporation, San Diego, CA), and Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery (St. Luke’s Hospital/Mid-America Heart Institute, Kansas City, MO).

Dr. Winton received his medical degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN, and he completed his general surgery training at Methodist Hospital of Indiana. He went on to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI.

Dr. Winton is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Florida Medical Association and the Polk County Medical Association. He is double board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery.
