The American Academy of Dermatology has designated May as National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. The goal is to raise awareness about melanoma and encourage individuals to routinely do skin self examinations. In conjunction with this national effort, local dermatologists are providing a community service offering free skin cancer screenings to individuals who do not have an established dermatologist.
